2007 CALENDAR SALE

Troops that have planned special uses for their cookie money from the previous year and/or newly forming troops in particular benefit from the option of earning start up funds at the beginning of the year.  Girl Scouts - Great Rivers Council offers the calendars as a fast, easy option for troops to raise these funds.  Troops surveyed last year found the calendar sale provides a simple, low-key activity with very little paperwork.  This is desirable in the beginning of the year when troops are just registering, forming, adding girls and meeting for the first time.  Troop participation in all council-sponsored sales is completely optional.  No troop is required to participate in any council-sponsored sale.

Each calendar (both wall and pocket calendars) sells for $2.50.  Your troop profit is 1/2 of that for a total of $1.25/calendar!

Dates:  November 1-10, 2006.

InVenture Facilitator Training

At this training,  you'll learn how to facilitate InVenture activities for your troop, service unit or day camp event.  An InVenture activity is a fun game that presents a challenge to a group, which the participants must solve within a given set of rules and by using only the materials provided.  InVenture activities help participants to explore and develop trust, teamwork, creativity, communication styles, leadership skills and problem-solving strategies.  InVenture games are a fun and exciting way of teaching the girls in your troop life skills that will help them to work better together and achieve a higher level of success.  You are encouraged to attend InVenture facilitator training on Saturday, September 16, 2006, from 1:00 - 4:30 p.m.  Please contact Jessica Coke at 619-1422.

Peace'n It All Together Peacemaker Training

We have an opportunity for Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts to earn the Peace'n It All Together Peacemaker program aid specialization training.  Peace'n It All Together enables older girls to learn how to relate to each other with understanding and respect and teach younger girls to do the same.  The girls will be able to lead the patch program for any troop or service unit, to help other Girl Scouts to manage conflict and create a safe social environment.  Following the training the girls will be asked to co-facilitate at least one peace day for a  group of Junior Girl Scouts.  Please encourage your girls to attend the training on September 23, 2006, from 12:30 - 5:30 p.m.  Please contact Jessica Coke at 619-1422.

MEMBERSHIP

On-Time Registration

Troops with 50% or more of the girls and at least one leader/advisor (01) registered by September 22, 2006, will receive a 10% discount card for the Council Store.  NOTE:  50% is based on total # of girls registered to troop as of July 15, 2006).

Become a Girl Scout Representative in your place of work

It's simple and easy to take a few minutes to hang a few posters or ask if the Girl Scout Staff Adult Recruiter could have a display table.  Everyone thinks of leadership for girls, but do they think about Translator, Low Ropes Instructors, Trainers, Teen Advisor, Workshop Presenters, Team Building Facilitators, or Service Team positions?  You can help give a different perspective of what volunteer opportunities are available in the organization.  Please contact Cheryl Shrider, Adult Recruiter, at 619-1424.  Click here to view flyer.
